Nano-silica dispersions enhance polychloroprene adhesive performance
Polychloroprene adhesives are cost-effective solutions in many applications where high initial bond strength is needed. Sometimes, however, greater wet bonding strength or heat resistance is needed. An economical solution is to boost the performance of waterborne polychloroprene adhesives with the addition of nano-silica dispersions from Covestro.
Our Dispercoll® S nano-silica dispersions are waterborne, anionic colloidal dispersions of amorphous silicon dioxide nanoparticles. Their particle sizes range from 5 to 100 nm.
Adding Dispercoll® S dispersions to waterborne adhesive formulations based on Dispercoll® C polychloroprene dispersions achieve the following property improvements:
- Higher initial wet bond strength
- Higher final bond strength
- Greater heat resistance
- Adjustment of viscosity over a wide range
Waterborne Dispercoll® C resins formulated with Dispercoll® S nano-silica dispersions are ideal substitutes for solventborne polychloroprene raw materials.
