The simple solution for superior adhesion
Desmocoll® hydroxyl-terminated high molecular weight polyurethanes were specifically developed for formulating solventborne polyurethane and polyester adhesives. Supplied as small granules and solubilized in organic solvents, Desmocoll® yields an end product that exhibits superior adhesion to a large array of substrates, including PVC.
Based on polyester polyols and aromatic isocyanates, Desmocoll® grades differ in their crystallization rate, heat resistance, adhesion to specific substrates and solution viscosity. Because of the wide product range offered by Covestro, it is possible to select a Desmocoll® grade that is suitable for a variety of adhesive applications.
Adhesives based on Desmocoll® are most often used in the heat activation bonding process, which involves warming the dry, non-tacky adhesive film above its minimum activation temperature before bonding. Bond strength rapidly increases as the adhesive layer cools. Desmocoll® produces optimum performance when used in conjunction with our Desmodur® R polyisocyanates.
Desmocoll® is proven for the formulation of adhesives used on a variety of materials, including leather, rubber, textiles, wood, plastics (including polyurethane elastomers), plastic films and aluminum foils.
Desmocoll® 400, 500 and 600 series products enable exceptional adhesion to PVC substrates and have high resistance to the most commonly used PVC plasticizers. They are ideal for footwear, packaging and furniture applications.
