Designer reactivity
Wide selection of polyols and polyisocyanates for reactive adhesives
Reactive adhesives are attractive for many applications. Their properties can be controlled through careful selection of the reactive components. With their differing polyol and polyisocyanate components, reactive polyurethane adhesives can be formulated with the properties needed for almost any adhesive application.
Polyurethanes make effective adhesives because they form strong bonds to different substrates. Those bonds develop rapidly, providing good initial bond strength, for more efficient processing.
Given the wide range of polyol and polyisocyanate chemistries, reactive polyurethane adhesives are formulated with a vast array of properties. The physical properties and adhesion of reactive adhesive films are determined by:
- Functionality and molecular weight of the polyol
- Type, functionality and NCO content of the polyisocyanate
- Number of urethane and/or polyurea groups
- Crosslinking density
